Apple is turning its attention to the living room. After a busy iPhone season, the company has confirmed a product launch for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, under the tagline “Welcome home”. If the reports are right, this could be Apple’s most serious push into the smart home in years.
How Apple announced it
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s head of worldwide marketing, teased the date on X on October 8 with a short two-word message and the date. The invite shows a rainbow Apple logo stitched onto fabric, a cosy touch that hints at products meant for the kitchen and lounge rather than the pocket.
This launch is not expected to be a classic live keynote. Instead, Apple is likely to release a video and press announcements, with select creators invited to a hands-on session at its Tribeca space in New York at 9 AM Eastern (6:30 PM IST).
What Apple could launch on October 13
- A smart home hub with a screen. Often called “HomePad” in leaks, it is said to carry a roughly 6-inch square display, in a wall-mounted version and a tabletop version with a speaker base.
- A new Apple TV 4K. The current model dates back to 2021. A faster chip, Wi-Fi 7 support and a smarter, AI-powered Siri are widely expected.
- A HomePod mini refresh. The small speaker has gone years without a major update, so a newer processor for Siri AI makes sense.
There are also rumours of smart locks, doorbells and security cameras developed with LG Electronics. Those are less certain, so don’t count on them this week.
Why this launch matters
For years, Apple’s smart home story has felt scattered across the Home app, HomePod speakers and third-party gadgets. A dedicated hub with a screen could tie it all together, letting families control lights, cameras and appliances by voice or touch. Reports even suggest the hub may recognise different family members by face.
The real test will be Siri. Apple’s AI assistant has trailed rivals for a long time, and every product in this lineup depends on it working well.
Should you buy an Apple TV or HomePod mini now?
If you were planning to buy either device, wait a day. New models usually mean better value on the latest hardware, and older stock may see price cuts in India and abroad.
Bottom line: October 13 could tell us whether Apple is ready to compete seriously with Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub. We’ll update this story once the products are official.
